Let me introduce myself...

My Picture
My name is Ayadh Farooq, alias Doc Mccurdy, after one of the characters in a novel I have written which I hope to have it published one day. I was born in Dubai and I am a Libra, that is 30th September, 1953.

I did some studies in the U.S.A., and also owned a house, previously, on the outskirts of Washington D.C., a place called Fairland Ridge in Silver Springs.

My hobbies are photography, playing tennis, writing poetry & stories. I indulge in Psychology (In eastern ways), have my own point of views in various matters such as Religion, Super Natural & the Philosophy of life.

If you are interested to discuss on any of the points and hear the Oriental Point of View on any matter, then you have found the right person.

Now to DUBAI and some Arabian custom

Dubai in pictures

Dubai photo DUBAI: A port City, which began as a pearling state in the early forties, developed into an oil exporting country in the sixties, and ripened into a prosperous business centre by the eighties.

Its population is about 750,000 of which the actual nationals number only 30%. The rest is made up of people from Iran, India, Pakistan, Sri LAnka, Philippines, other neighboring Arab Countries, and Europeans. After the Iraq-Kuwait war, an influx of Americans have also been noted.

UAE Photo DID YOU KNOW that the male arab's traditional dress is made up of 3 items.
The long flowing robe is the Kandoora or DIsh-Dash and is mostly light colored to reflect away the sun.
The white scarf is called the Ghutra and the black wowen round piece that holds the ghutra in place is called Agal.

The Agal had another purpose in the past, when in the night as there was no place to tie up camels in the desert, their front feet would be inserted inside the agal thus preventing them to move about freely and stop them from wandering away. The ghutra was very useful during desert sand storms, as the whole face could be covered and also when visibility was almost nil, the children's hands would be tied with it to the adults, to stop them from getting lost.
